WHY
YEAST FREE?
Yeasts are part of a wide range
of fungi and will have been used in the production of any
product which has been fermented.
WHY
IS YEAST BAD?
Some people are allergic or intolerant to yeast. For others
yeast may need to be avoided because it encourages Candida
Albicans (thrush). Candida Albicans is an unfriendly bacteria
which lives naturally in our gut and, if there is a good balance
of friendly and unfriendly bacteria, it causes no problem.
However, if there is an overgrowth, it kills off the friendly
bacteria and can grow into fungal spikes which
pierce the gut wall. Food molecules then pass undigested into
the body, triggering an immune response which causes symptoms
of intolerances and allergies.
Eating yeast and yeast related products encourages the growth
of Candida Albicans and eating sugar and yeast products together
is particularly dangerous if you are prone to Candida.
Any food that has been on the shelf for some time may have
invisible yeast growths on it. Preserved and dried foods will
also have yeast on them. Any alcohol which has been fermented
(beer, wine) should be avoided.
The omission of bread as a result of avoiding yeast can lead
to fibre and B complex vitamin deficiency so care should be
taken to replace these in the diet.
